WELCOME TO AMERICAN ALLWASTE

OUR MISSION

People and Technology that Deliver Elite Non-Hazardous Liquid Waste Hauling and Processing Solutions.

WHAT WE VALUE

1

SAFETY

  • Safety is our belief, not just our priority. While priorities can change due to outside influences, beliefs don't waiver. They're embedded in our core.
  • Safety isn't about policy, and it isn't about individuals. Safety is about the people we work with and their families.

The company provides drivers with bluetooth headsets for essential work calls only. Personal calls are prohibited while driving, but you may return those calls when you are safely pulled over. Sorry, safety trumps your social life. Oh, and when you are in a truck your cellphone lives in a cellphone locker. If it decides to visit you while driving, we've got problems. Lastly, all American AllWaste vehicles are installed with dual-facing cameras. Before you freak out it is for the safety of everyone and we don't record sound. These can provide concrete evidence to prove your innocence should an accident or driving incident occur for which you are not responsible. Tampering with or covering up this device is strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary actions... Sorry, it's just the rules.

    2

    OWNERSHIP

    • We believe in owning our disposal sites and facilities in all of our major markets. This gives us complete control of waste streams to make sure they are properly disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal law, while ensuring we never have to rely on anyone else to keep rolling. #jobsecurity. Not only is this just good business sense, it is also something that makes us unique in our industry.
    • We believe in every employee having an entrepreneurial mindset. Having this mindset can be a competitive advantage in an ever-changing business environment. We want behaviors to be guided more by values than rules; even when 'nobody is watching.' This mindset starts with a purpose or a "why" and here is ours; We are laser focused on a singular componentthe customer. So whether you are directly or indirectly involved with the customer, we want you to know that your part and your job matters.
    • We believe in the freedom of employees to own their decisions and actions and view mistakes as opportunities for growth. If you have a better idea or way to do something, let's try it. If it fails, we learn and move on. As Thomas Edison said "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
    3

    RESPONSIVENESS

    • Responsiveness is being there when it matters with 24/7 Emergency Service.
    • Responsiveness is speaking to a real person when you call the office, not an automated menu.
    • Responsiveness is about being proactive, actively listening and being ready with solutions when needed.
    • Exceptional responsiveness builds an external and internal reputation of reliability.
    4

    TRUE GRIT

    • COURAGE - ENDURANCE - RESILIENCE - EXCELLENCE - CONSCIENTIOUSNESS
    • People with true grit never give up. Quitting isn't an option for them.
    • People with true grit have an intrinsic passion or purpose to go beyond the easily achieved.
    • People with true grit are our favorite people to hire and we are always actively looking to add them to our family.

WAYS TO STAND OUT... IN A GOOD WAY

We're in the business of creating leaders and we're here to set you up for success. So, listen carefully. The first thing you have going for you is you've chosen American AllWaste as your home, or are seriously considering it. This alerts me to the fact that you are indeed of sound mind and of higher intelligence. The second thing you have is well, me - A.k.a your guide on your journey to becoming more magnificent, and my below list. The following are some specific examples of ways to be awesome and to impress your colleagues and leaders. Naturally, this list cannot be all-inclusive, but hopefully it will give you a leg up:

    • Be nice, its take less effort; Channel Mother Teresa
    • Be on time, or better yet, be early; Early bird gets the worm... or breakfast taco
    • Have a sense of urgency; Take a note from Nike. JUST DO IT. Everyday you wait = another day you won't get back
    • Give everything your best effort; Remember effort and perfection are not one in the same
    • Treat it like you own it; This is just a good policy all around
    • Check your attitude at the door and think Kumbaya; Teamwork makes the dream work
    • Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth; Pinocchio learned the hard way
    • Focus on internal relationships, not your phone; Yes, you will still go on to live a normal and fulfilled life
    • Treat others the way you want to be treated; Again, channel Mother Teresa
    • Offer ideas and suggestions; The worst idea is the one not mentioned
    • Request time off through your portal and call if you're going to be late; You're a grown up. It's never too early to be responsible
    • Be positive; Never underestimate the power of a smile
    • Have a sense of humor; We aren't saving lives. It's ok to have a little fun while we work (safely, of course)

WE HAVE A NO ASSES RULE.

(Truth: We try hard not to hire them. But, they temporarily sneak in sometimes.)

WE DON'T PUT BABY IN A CORNER

We're moving from an accountability culture to a learning culture. FYI, It's kind of the gold standard these days. Now before you guys start thinking this is a free-for-all on accountability, think again. We are still holding you accountable for your work and your team's work. What we mean by this is accountability cultures focus primarily on building backwards, while learning cultures focus on building forward. It's achieved by leaders who are responsible for our employees and serving them, and not just responsible for ruling them.

Learning cultures enable employees to acquire, assimilate and transfer new knowledge to create value. It's about replacing competition with cooperation and dialogue. Organizations that have this culture, value people and want them to learn and grow for their own good and the good of the company.

Annual reviews were once the popular and standardized process, but American AllWaste is committed to creating a culture of "people development". Before you get excited, we will still have annual reviews. They are necessary to provide transactional data needed in performance management. Annual reviews and our "people development" culture coexist. I know. Mind blown. Boom. The "people development" side is a culture of putting our employees in charge of their own growth. Where evaluations center on how to help our employees succeed, not sorting out who needs to be terminated. How do we do it? We recognize in real time. We provide performance metrics frequently with one-on-one informal discussions to celebrate accomplishments and provide continuous feedback.

    LEAVE & TIME OFF POLICIES

...Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don't we go...

    PTO

Rookies get 80 hours/year accrued. After 3 years of service you accrue 120 hours/year and after 7 years you accrue 160 hours/year.

Hourly Employees: At the end of the year, 40 hours or less rolls over and any hours over 40 is paid out to you. You never lose PTO time, but we prefer you take it so you can recharge and see your loved ones.

*Salaried Employees: You can't cash out PTO, sorry. You accrue until you hit a cap and once that cap is hit you won't accrue any until you use some.

    What do people wear?

    It depends on your job...

Our offices are super casual. Jeans & t-shirts are the most common. Sometimes people wear button downs or blouses if they're feeling fancy.

For our drivers and plant personnel, SAFETY comes before style (although we try our best to keep it real). Get used to the color safety yellow, hard hats and steel toe boots. The good news is you get to pick your pants... kind of... we prefer jeans.
